How to Know If You Need Drywall Repair

May 23, 2019

It happens to every homeowner at some point in their life.

Their drywall starts to crack or bubble in weird ways and it may be time to replace it. But what exactly does drywall repair entail? Is there a specialist out there who may be able to help you?

Luckily, drywall doesn’t take long to fix and with the right team, your walls will be pristine once more. But it does help to know what kind of damage you’re looking at before you call.

So keep reading for some common drywall damage!

1. Water Damage

One of the worst types of damage drywall can have is water damage.

This can happen when a pipe bursts or if a room has flooded. If you think your drywall has fallen victim to water, it’s important to get all of it replaced as quickly as possible.

Always make sure you repair the source of damage though. If a pipe bursts, you may need to contact a plumber to inspect the break and repair that damage. Once that’s been done, it’s time to call your drywall repair team to come in and fix that wall.

2. Termite Damage

Older homes often experience termites.

If you notice tiny holes all over your walls or if it sounds hollow when you knock on the wall, you may have termites. Like any sort of damage, it’s always important to call in a specialized contractor to fix or get rid of that problem first.

Hopefully, the damage is caught early. If so, you can simply cut the damaged drywall out and patch it, making it a quick and easy repair. If not, you may have to see the entire wall replaced.

3. Cracked or Holey Drywall

If your drywall is starting to buckle or if hairline cracks are starting to appear in your paint, it may be time to repair or replace that wall.

Sometimes cracks are caused by age or strain. Simply caulking the damage may be all you need to do. If not, consult a specialist to come in and cut out the damaged areas and patch them.

4. Bubbling

Another common type of damage is bubbling.

This occurs when the tape holding two sections of drywall together starts to peal way or buckle. This can cause the paint over top of the tape to weaken.

If you notice bubbling happening at any section of your wall, cut that section of tape away, put some fresh joint compound down, and then put a new piece of tape on.

Catching bubbling early allows you to stay one step ahead and strengthen the drywall before it buckles entirely.
